Thanks for all your comments regarding carpet vs. wood in the master bedroom. I think we'll go with wood in the two small bedrooms and carpet in the master. It's cheaper anyway. So here's my question. How often do you mop your kitchen and bathrooms? And by "mop" I don't mean get out a Clorox wipe and go over the spills and spots. I mean get out the mop and bucket and really MOP them. No lying. I won't judge. I'm really just trying to figure out how my habits compare to everyone else's.

um....there is a mop and bucket that comes out about three times a year. I just vacuum up dust/dirt/pet hair in my kitchen and bathrooms, and that seems all but clean enough for me, but mopping....yeah. Hardly ever.
What's a mop? Seriously, I just Swiffer when needed.
Maybe once a week. Maybe once every two weeks. I wait until I can't stand it anymore and then mop.
I don't even have a mop. Granted the two areas that could be mopped are small, so I find that clorox and paper towels work when guests are coming over, otherwise, I just run the vacuum over it on 'floor' mode to pick up dust/crumbs...
When the dirt becomes really visible. Then I send in the husband to mop. Because, just like George Jefferson didn't clean windows, I DON'T MOP.
Hee.
Now, throughout our first floor, we have Pergo laminate flooring that looks like oak. I frequently sweep the dirt and cat hair and dust bunnies from that floor. And once every week or two, I do use Pledge Multi-Purpose and a dustmop to make it shine.
I don't mop, I Swiffer. And that's maybe once a week. I sweep maybe two other times a week. And I need to get something else other than Swiffer because it dulls the finish on our hardwood floors. But the other stuff I was uses makes it look sort of "greasy." Really shiny but you can see footprints all over the place.
Once a week to once every two weeks...depending if it needs it. I do the clorox wipes pretty frequently. We're lucky that our house never really gets that dirty. We're both pretty neat and our two kitties don't make a mess really at all. When we had dogs it was a different story...always wiping up muddy foot prints...but they were worth every minute of it.

I don't even own a mop.
Me, personally, never ;) But Kim does it every couple weeks.
we have that "fake" wood flooring, the laminate stuff. unfortunately, the dark color we chose shows much pet hair. but there is NO bringing out of any mop in our house. gave that up a longgggg time ago. i pull out the dry swiffer about every 3-4 days, and the wet swiffer for wood floors every week or so. the bathrooms mostly get dry swiffered once every few weeks.
is that bad? ;)
Our last house had wood flooring throughout the entire thing (will, we had tile in 3 bathrooms and wood in the powder room). I NEVER was able to fully mop it. Stupid, stupid wood flooring and its seams that can't have water on them. I could only use the Swiffer on it (after ringing it out). Our next house will not have so much freakin' wood.
(What I'm saying is wood is better looking, but doesn't clean up as good. At least that's what I found!)
Since we have hardwood in the kitchen I just swiffer. And, seriously, I think I've done it once in the last year. My husband will do it, but he even only does it
I vaccuum all my tile every 4 or 5 days or so, use the mop and bucket once a week or every two weeks, depending on how bad it is. Then, I also have a Hoover Floormate that I use once or twice a month.
I swiffer every other day or so and the cleaning people use the mop once every two weeks.
I have a housekeeper, so she vacuums twice a week and mops the whole house once a week. When I did it, I would only mop every other week, Swiffer almost every other day (we had a messy dog) and vacuum only once a week.
I like having the housekeeper much better.
swiffer!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I use my little Shark thing like every day, just for hari, Play-Doh, food, etc. I NEVER mop, but the maids do every other week.
See here's the thing about the damned floors. I have two dogs, five cats, a husband and a baby and I think when I go to work they conspire to make all the hard floors as AWFUL as they possibly could be. My floors NEED to be mopped several times a day. They get mopped maybe once a week, maybe three times. Never as much as they need. I use my swiffer sweep and vac twice a day to keep the hair/dirt/cheerio and food dust/etc to a minimum, and once in awhile I'll swiffer wetjet some spots, but I don't ever mop like I should. The bathroom? Twice a month. Maybe. (blush)
Oh, but now that Liam is crawling his feet and knees become black if I don't keep up! eeek.
Ok, first things first: I WANT A HOUSEKEEPER TOO! Since I pulled up the linoleum in the kitchen and now it's just cement I have probably mopped a total of three times in five year. Hey, you said you wouldn't judge! The bathroom, probably about the same but I use Clorox wipes periodically. The rest of the house is laminate and it's a total bitch to keep clean, pet hair, foot prints, dust...with three dogs and two cats it's completely unmanageable. Like I said, I need a maid.
