Something to Keep in Mind
This is what scares me to death (pun not intended) about cycling:

360 is heavily used for cycling in Austin since it is so hilly and there are some beautiful views. The downside is that cars go anywhere from 55-75 mph. I can't say that I don't worry about getting hit when I ride because I do. It terrifies me when huge trucks or semis drive by going 65 mph because they make your bike wobble a little. I have visions of toppling over into the road.

Anyway, the next time you see a cyclist, just be careful and remember that they have every right to be on the road, just like a car or a motorcycle.

That's my 2 cents.

All that traffic would scare the crap outta me.

OMG, I know!!!
This has deeply saddened me. No one should have to give their life because they want to ride!
What makes it even sadder is that the 2nd car DIDN'T EVEN STOP!!

That would scare the poop out of me. And I hope you stay very safe. What would the world do without our beloved Nap Queen?

Wow, that is just awful. I am way too scared to ride in the road, but then again, I hardly ever ride my bike, so it's not a huge deal. I hope you stay safe out there!

Kim goes out of his way to stay off roads like that.

2 years ago on Easter we were on out way to brunch with family and encountered stopped traffice on this country road. It turned out some guy from a retirement community hit 2 cyclists. Didn't stop right away. Didn't know he'd hit them. Blood alcohol over .2

One of the cylists was killed and the other had serious head trauma and is basically really messed up for the rest of her life.

That is so sad. I can't believe the second car didn't even stop! I agree that cyclists have every right to be on the roads, but they must follow the traffic rules as well. They can be bad here in Houston just crossing busy intersections when they think they can get across and stuff.

That is so damn scary. I can't believe she got hit twice. OMG.

My hubs mentioned last week that he would really like to ride 360 someday (not that his ankle is in any condition to ride down our street let alone the highway). I told him he better take out some extra life insurance if he was going to do so. I sent him this article as soon as I saw it yesterday and told him that this is why I don't want him doing it.

This is so sad.

Holy shit! I almost got backed over once in eugene by some girl on a cell phone - she backed right in to the bike lane and I had to bail. I can't believe someone would keep going after hitting a bicylist, and not stop. Yeah, it's a horrible and serious situation, but what an unthinkable thing to do! I hope they find the 2nd driver and throw em in jail.

Anyone who hits a cyclist or pedestrian should have their cars taken away and have to walk or ride a bike forever, after they get out of jail. Then they would see how unfriendly this country is towards people who care about their health. That really pisses me off. ALWAYS yield to pedestrians and cyclists.
